Do your children have a My Space or Face Book account? WHY?

I caught my 12 year old with a myspace account a few months ago. She even had our home phone number listed on there. I was so angry. She lied about it for almost a year. She used her friend's computer to set it up because she would never get away with it in this house.

She is banned from the Internet for one year. And, I record all the episodes of "To Catch A Predator" for her TV enjoyment. I have contacted all the parents that have computers and informed them of our situation.

You can never be too careful. It is a dangerous world for children and parents alike.

Best wishes!

Do your children have a My Space or Face Book account? WHY?
YES, BUT WITH ME THERE TO APPROVE OR DISAPPROVE ON THE CONTEXT HE SEND AND RECEIVE.......HE IS 12 YRS OLD
Reply:Not anymore. After seeing some of the stuff she posted on myspace, we had our 16 year old terminate the page and have restricted her computer privileges.
Reply:I dont have kids...but I have one.

my younger cousins have them and I need to put them on check when those pictures get to be toooo much.

I think its juat another way for them to date abd meet people. But their parents dont care....soo my opinion dnt mean crap.
Reply:My kids are 27 and 25 years old, they can do pretty well what they want as long as it's legal.
Reply:my kids are 15 and 17yrs old. and they have a myspace accounts. and i know the passwords. they are set private. only ppl they know they add. we have family in other states and my kids keep in contact with them. my kids know the rules for internet. and the safety they have to use. (and they know they have a nosey mom that will look at any day to check on them)
Reply:we usually have these accounts to entertain our selves and to meet new people come on dont be silly all your life
Reply:I am a kid and i'll admit that I do have myspace and my sister has face book. Okay, I know: many adults talk about it like its extrememly dangerous. It can be, but not if you do it properly. Make sure your kids put them on private so only their friends who they add can see them. Plus, there is no need to put anything inappropriate on them. It's just to keep in touch with people you know and to talk online. PS- my mom checks our myspace and facebooks often to make sure nothing bad is going on. Keep in mind that myspace and facebook were invented with nothing bad intended. Don't worry, your kids will be safe as long as you check them.
Reply:I have a myspace account. because i can keep in touch with my friends that when to the navy or college.
Reply:My kids are 3 and 5 so no! But i'm 25 and yes I have one just to keep up with people from high school and family that live out of state!
Reply:My daughter is 14 and has a bebo account set to private, which she uses to communicate with her friends outside school.
Reply:i am a kid and i do have a myspace. we have them because it gives us a way to sommunicate with eachother without being awkward. you dont have to be even friends with someone on myspace to talk to them. it better like that.
Reply:I think any kid of an appropriate age can have one, as long as they are responsible. I mean, seriously, why restrict them so much as to not allow them to have an account--that will just motivate them to create one secretly that could be potentially dangerous. If you cooperate with them, and negotiate to have a 'private' profile, and be able to go on to their account and check it for appropriateness. Then they will be more likely to behave safely on MySpace/Facebook.
